‘refuge’ are a 3 piece acoustic band with Peter Hirst on lead vocals, Sam Munton
on bass and Phil Seaman on lead guitar and backing vocals. The band has been
together in this current format since 2010.
Following the Arts Council funded project ‘Moving InWards’ in 2014, when the band
focused on making live music an everyday feature on mental health hospital wards,
they have now chosen to specialise in performing within mental health arenas.
Their fourth album: ‘Moving Inwards’ features the single ‘Reflections’ and ‘Take me
Home’ which were played on BBC Introducing and also includes the track ‘Find you
Know’ featuring Mark Morriss on backing vocals.
This album was mentored by Mark Morriss, lead singer of ‘The Bluetones’ & Gaz
Birtles of ‘The Beautiful South’ as part of the Moving InWards project. Mark
continues to mentor the band as they develop their latest album: ‘Within’.
‘Within’ acknowledges the benefits of relaxation and mindfulness combined with the
band’s original music and lyrics to create a space for the listener to support their
wellbeing.
The band donate all the income from their albums to supporting the mental health
projects facilitated by Develop Insite CIC and this, in turn, is invested back into the
company to widen and develop the work.
